Services and Rates

Roots & Branches offers several different types of research services in Swedish records, both at fixed and hourly rates. All requests start with an initial search, free of charge, to see if the starting person can be found in the records before Roots & Branches takes on the research assignment.

Services at fixed rates

Small research package
The small investigation includes for each person the full name, date and place of birth, date and place of death and sources. The package includes an ancestors' chart, statistics and a pedigree chart. Medium research package
The medium research assignment includes for each individual the full name, date and place of birth, occupation/title, date and place of marriage, date and place of death, cause of death, sources and either all residences or the date and place of birth of all children (client's choice). The package includes an ancestors' chart, personal records of all individuals, statistics and a pedigree chart.

Large research package
The large research assignment includes all the information that can be found in the records such as the full name, date and place of birth, date of baptism, residences, occupation/title, date and place of marriage, date and place of birth of all children, date and place of death, cause of death and sources. The package includes an ancestors' chart, personal records of all individuals, statistics and a pedigree chart. Extra Large research package
The extra large research assignment includes everything in the above Large research package, plus short accounts for each residence, which together make up a biography of the researched individual. Examples of what might turn up are relationships within the family, such as who was chosen as godparents for the children, if relatives were hired as farmhands and maids and if several generations lived at the same place. Examples of what have turned up in previous reports are: several cousins who died in the same accident, step siblings who got married, and how a dozen relatives emigrated to America at the same time. Other tidbits are how members of researched families have interacted with the ancestors of Swedish-American celebrities, such as the astronaut Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin and actor Jake Gyllenhaal. Another example is the family who lived at the property of one of the mansions in Nobel laureate Selma Lagerlöf's novels. There is a story to be told in each family, and these accounts give an insight into the researched individuals' lives and circumstances. Family name research
Through how many generations has your family name been passed down, and who was the first person to take it on? What does it mean in Swedish? The rate depends on the number of generations and how much information you want about each individual.

 Rates and scope

*A starting person is not researched, only his/her ancestors.

Reduction

If an ancestor for some reason is not to be found in the records, a reduction of $5 will be made for each missing individual. 

Hourly rate

Do you have a special request outside of the above packages? Roots & Branches takes on special research projects at an hourly rate of $40. This includes, for example, finding and establishing contact with Swedish relatives. Get in touch and present your goal, and an assesment will be made to see if the research project can be carried out. A ceiling as to how many hours of research should be conducted can be requested, in order for you to decide how much the research may cost.

Presentation of the research results

Roots & Branches offers several types of presentations of the research results. One electronic presentation of your choice is included in the package rates above, extra electronic presentation types are $10 each.

• .pdf-file sent by e-mail. (Recommended option.) The recipient must have Adobe Reader installed in order to open it. Adobe Reader can be downloaded for free here.
• .rtf-file sent by e-mail. The file can be opened in almost any word processor. 
• .html-file sent by e-mail. The file can be opened in the recipient's browser (eg Internet Explorer or Google Chrome) and published on the Internet.
• GEDCOM-file sent by e-mail, for anyone who wants to continue building on the family tree in a genealogy software program.
• Min släkt-file, sent by e-mail, recommended only for those who are proficient in Swedish and want to continue building on the family tree in the genealogy software program Min släkt. The recipient must download the program Min släkt, which can be done for free at dannbergsdata.se. Min släkt can only be used in Windows computers. 

• Printouts in A4-size. Documents in a binder, including service fee and postage, $50.
